WHL Winnipeg Ice

7 Point Night for Benson in Ottawa

November 30, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Winnipeg Ice News Release

Winnipeg ICE forward Zach Benson had seven points Monday night (three goals and four assists) to lead Team Canada Black to a 10-5 win over Team Canada White to wrap up preliminary round action at the Capital City Challenge in Ottawa.

"Our line has been moving the puck well. We have a lot of speed and have been using that to our advantage" Benson told Hockey Canada. "Playing with Calum [Ritchie] is great, he is a great guy off the ice and a very skilled player with a lot of hockey IQ on the ice, so he is fun to play with. You add in Ty [Halaburda], who is so fast and physical. He works hard, never takes a shift off and wins puck battles, and they are both great linemates."

Benson led all players at the tournament during round robin play with six goals and nine points in three games.

Team Canada Black plays in the semi finals tonight at 6:00 Central vs the National Women's Team.
