67's Winning Streak Ends with Game 3 Loss to Guelph

OTTAWA - Ottawa 67's fans will get to see their team at home once more this season after the Barber Poles lost 7-2 to the Guelph Storm on Monday night.

The Game 3 loss ends Ottawa's record-setting playoff win streak at 14 games. With the 67's leading the OHL Finals best-of-seven series 2-1, the teams will clash again Wednesday in Guelph before coming back to Ottawa for Game 5 on Friday night.

Sasha Chmelevski and Graeme Clarke scored for Ottawa in a game that was closer than the final score would suggest until an offensive explosion from the Storm in the third.

The first period picked up where Game 2 left off as both teams battled for chances and traded goals. Guelph captain Isaac Ratcliffe opened the scoring 4:08 into the period but Chmlevski took little more than a minute to even things up with his 10th of the playoffs.

Nate Schnarr would restore Guelph's lead in the second period, though Clarke would reply a few minutes later with his seventh of the post-season to pull Ottawa to within one. Alexey Toropchenko would give the Storm a 4-2 lead at the 16:31 mark of the second.

Cedrick Andree made 29 saves in his first OHL playoffs start, while Anthony Popovich made 18 saves to pick up the win.

"I think Guelph played a really solid game. They came out really strong. Our focus was probably not at the right place but give a lot of credit to them. I think they were the best team on the ice today and that's why they won. We want to learn from it. Guelph did a lot of good things but there's things we want to adjust. That's the game of hockey."

"Game 3 didn't go the way we wanted but one thing that Coach as taught us is, you never lose a game you always learn from it...For all the guys in our room, I don't think we were there mentally, it think they got into our heads. You never want to give a team like that powerplays."

Game notes

Wednesday was a homecoming for 67's forward Austen Keating, who is from Guelph.

Sasha Chmelevski led the 67's with four shots in Game 3.

Ottawa was 1-for-4 on the powerplay in this one, while Guelph was 0-for-4.

Guelph had a 27-25 edge in the face-off circle.

Three different Storm players -- Entwistle, Toropchenko and Ratcliffe -- all had two-goal outings. Durzi and Suzuki each had three assists.
