Ottawa 67's News Release
(Ottawa ON.): The Ottawa 67's today announced that naming rights for the Ottawa Civic Centre will be the grand prize in a contest for Ottawa area businesses*. For a $1,000 entry fee, companies can sign-up for a chance to win naming rights for the arena and, win or lose, they'll also receive $1,000 in 67's tickets and a suite night. A draw to pick the winner will be held on the 67's 2009-10 opening night, Sept. 25. Re-branding will commence as soon as possible and the Civic Centre will then be referred to by the winning company's name until July 1, 2010.
"This is a great opportunity for a company to become well known around the region and the entire province," said Jeff Hunt, the 67's Owner and Governor. "The name of the building is referenced in every media story and every ad for our games and other events that take place inside it, and that's worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in brand awareness. We're offering businesses the chance to win that kind of publicity for what they'd normally spend on a few classified ads in the newspaper, and they'll also get full value for their money with $1,000 in 67's tickets and a suite night."
North American facility naming rights, according to ESPN Sports Business, are typically worth between $500,000 and $5 Million/season, depending on the number of events that take place in the facility and the size of the media market in which they are located. The Ottawa/Gatineau metropolitan area is Canada's 4th largest media market with a population in excess of 1.1 Million and the Civic Centre complex hosts dozens of major events per year.
