67's Bested by Colts Before Holiday Break

December 18, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release

*The Ottawa 67's were unable to head into the holiday break on a high note, Saturday afternoon, dropping a 5-2 result to the Barrie Colts from The Arena at TD Place. Luca Pinelli scored, as did Vsevolod Gaidamak - who returned from a five-game absence - but Barrie pulled away with a pair of late third period goals.

The Colts got on the board first, just 3:30 into the contest. An Ian Lemieux point shot took a funny bounce off of Will Cranley's stick, and hopped into the goal to open the scoring. Play remained even for the remainder of the frame, though, and despite some great chances, the 67's headed into the second period down 1-0.

Ottawa pressed the attack in the second period, but the bounces just wouldn't go their way, as Chris Grisolia and Anthony Tabak both found insurance markers for Barrie, making this a 3-0 game.

Finally, the Barber Poles broke their goose egg late in the second. After a furious rush into the offensive zone, Brad Gardiner found Brady Stonehouse, who threw the puck on net. It was stopped by Mack Guzda, but Pinelli buried the rebound for his third of the season, cutting the deficit to two.

Ottawa pulled within one soon after, with Gaidamak's team-leading 13th of the campaign. After missing five games with injury, "Seva" was able to beat Guzda with a quick shot, and cut the Colts' lead to 3-2.

Despite the 67's pressing as the third began, Barrie pulled away with a pair of goals from Nathan Allensen and Beau Jelsma, to skate off with a 5-2 victory.

Game Notes:

Brad Gardiner now has two points in his last four games.

Luca Pinelli has goals in two of his last four games.

Vsevolod Gaidamak has now scored in both meetings with Barrie, this season.

With an assist on Gaidamak's goal, Dylan Robinson snapped a six-game pointless streak.

Up Next: The 67's will enjoy a well-deserved holiday break, before a visit to the Oshawa Generals on Tuesday, December 28, at 2:05pm EST.
