Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers 2015 campaign ended with a 7-6 loss at LoanMart Field to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Labor Day. The Quakes took the decisive lead on Paul Hoenecke's solo homer in the bottom of the eighth and swept the Sixers in the four-game set. The 66ers ended the year by losing 22 of their final 25 games.

Inland Empire took a 2-0 lead in the second when Quinten Davis doubled with two outs and then came home on Bo Way's RBI single a batter later. Way stole second and scored on Roberto Baldoquin's RBI single after that to make it 2-0. The Quakes tied the game in the bottom of the inning in on Delvis Morales two-run single.

The Sixers (61-79, 26-44) scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning when Michael Strentz opened the frame by blasting a homer off the scoreboard to make it 3-2. It was Strentz' sixth long-ball of the season. The inning continued as Gabriel Santana singled and Davis again doubled down the left field line. A RBI ground out by Way (who had three hits, two RBI and a steal) knocked in Santana and Mike Fish then doubled home Davis making it 5-2. Fish finished the game with three hits. In the bottom of the inning Alex Verdugo blasted a solo shot for Rancho Cucamonga (78-62, 37-33) against starter Jordan Kipper. The Quakes cut the lead to 5-4 on Morales' second run-producing single of the game later in the frame.

Rancho was able to take a 6-5 lead in the fifth when they pushed across two unearned runs against Kipper who went five innings allowing six runs, four earned, with three walks and seven Ks. Inland Empire was able to tie the game 6-6 against shortstop/reliever Dillon Moyer in the seventh. Caleb Adams knocked in Mike Fish who had singled with one out in the frame and moved to third on Andrew Daniel's base hit.

The Quakes however broke the tie in the bottom of the eighth when Hoenecke tagged an Alan Busenitz (0-2) offering out to center for his ninth homer of the year, his third against the 66ers. The 66ers had two men in scoring position in the top of the ninth but closer Josh Sborz struck out Adams to end the game and get his second save. Michael Johnson (7-1) was one of seven pitchers used by the Quakes in the game and was credited with the win.
