Tulsa, Okla., November 21, 2008 - The Iowa Energy utilized five players scoring in double figures to outlast the Tulsa 66ers 100-89 in preseason action on Friday, at the SpiritBank Event Center. Othyus Jeffers led all scorers in the game with 21 points for the Energy.
Larry Ayuso scored 13 of his 16 points in the second quarter as the Energy shot 56 percent and charged back from a five-point deficit after the first period to take a 47-42 lead going into halftime. The Energy then shot 9-of-16 (56 percent) again in the third quarter, taking advantage of seven 66ers turnovers in the quarter, to build a 76-55 lead heading into the final period. Tulsa shot 12-of-37 in the second and third quarters.
"At times we looked pretty good, others we struggled. But we take some things from this game and look to improve," 66ers Head Coach Paul Woolpert said. "In the end, it's an exhibition game, and we'll take a look at our strengths and weaknesses."
66ers guard Moses Ehambe shot 7-of-8 from the field in the fourth quarter, scoring all of his 15 points in the final period to bring Tulsa to within nine at 91-82 with 2:46 left in the game. In the end, the Energy's biggest lead of 24 points was too much to overcome.
Cartier Martin finished with 15 points, while Marcel Jones and Patrick Sanders each had 10 points for the Energy. Chris Ellis finished with team-highs of 16 points and seven rebounds, and Derrick Dial added 14 points for the 66ers.
The 66ers tip-off the 2008-09 NBA Development League regular season on Friday, November 28 at Rio Grande Valley, while the Energy start the season the same night in Sioux Falls.
