Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers (38-33) scored a 6-2 victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm (28-43) Thursday night to open the second half of the season at San Manuel Stadium. Orangel Arenas was the star of the game with an impressive seven shutout inning performance.
Through the first four innings the game proved to be a silent pitcher's duel. 66ers starting pitcher, Orangel Arenas delivered his fifth straight quality start of the season, shutting down Storm batters in their infrequent run scoring chances. Arenas matched his longest outing of the year, with a seven inning performance complete with four strikeouts.
It wasn't until mid-game that the 66ers broke the scoreboard wide open. In the 5th inning five 66ers runs scored with Joel Capote, Brennan Gowens and Alex Yarbrough each earning RBI's that contributed to the 66ers midgame lead. The 6th inning echoed the team's 5th inning performance, adding another run on a Brennan Gowens single for a six run lead over the Storm.
In the 9th Eric Cendejas' two strikeouts proved to be the nail in the coffin for the Storm, and set the 66ers up with a chance to start the 2nd half 2-0 Friday. Right handed pitcher Danny Reynolds (5-7) will assume the mound as the planned pitcher for the second game of the series at home. The Friday night first pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM and can be heard on AM 1050 KCAA. It will be a 50 Cent Friday at San Manuel Stadium, presented by Toyota and Scion of Redlands.
