Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - David Rollins tossed five dominant innings and the JetHawks offense scored early and often en route to an 11-3 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in the second half opener on Thursday at The Hangar.
Lancaster put up five runs on Quakes starter Garrett Gould (2-5) in the first inning. Joe Sclafani scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and Telvin Nash doubled in the other two runners with two outs. Tyler Heineman followed with his third home run of the season to put the JetHawks ahead, 5-0.
The runs would prove to be plenty for Rollins (7-4) who allowed only one hit over five innings. He struck out a season-high nine batters and walked two. Rollins has now allowed only one hit and no runs over his last eight innings and is 4-1 in his last five starts.
After scoring a run on a Bladimir Franco error in the third, the JetHawks put up five again in the fourth. Matt Duffy led off with a double and Chris Epps drove him in with a two-run home run, his seventh of the season. Delino DeShields followed Epps with a double and Gould was removd from the game.
The right-hander allowed nine runs (eight earned) on six hits in three innings. Raydel Sanchez entered and was greeted by a run-scoring Sclafani double. After an out, M.P. Cokinos blasted a two-run homer to make the score 11-0.
Lancaster did not pick up another hit for the rest of the night.
Tyson Perez, the tandem starter, tossed the final four innings to pick up his third save. After starting his night with two scoreless innings, he gave up a leadoff triple to Bladimir Franco in the eighth inning. He scored on a Casio Grider ground ball and later on, Scott Schebler doubled in Darnell Sweeney.
O'Koyea Dickson hit a solo homer in the ninth inning for the Quakes third and final run of the night.
Perez gave up three runs in his four innings and struck out five. Rollins and Perez combined to strike out 14, a single-game season-high for the JetHawks pitching staff.
The JetHawks (40-31, 1-0) take on the Quakes (31-40, 0-1) in game two of the series on Friday night at The Hangar. Luis Cruz (3-4, 5.28) will start for the JetHawks against Jarrett Martin (5-6, 4.36).
Friday night will feature the Tribute to Michael Jackson Fireworks Show following the game.
