66ers Drop Pitching Dual 1-0
April 24, 2010 - California League (CalL1)
Inland Empire 66ers News Release
VISALIA, Calif--- Another outstanding pitching effort went without a 66ers win Friday as Inland Empire lost its second straight to Visalia, this time by a final score of 1-0. Ethan Martin led the staff in a five hit effort, but it was not good enough though because the 66ers one hit by the Rawhide, dropping Inland Empire a season low two games below .500.
The 66ers (7-9) received another fantastic pitching effort from the 20-year old right-hander Martin. He threw six innings of two-hit baseball striking out seven without allowing a run. That brings his season strikeout total to 20, tying him for the California League lead. But the Rawhide (10-4) became the first team in the league to double-digit victories because their trio of right-handers combined to allow just a seventh inning single by Pedro Baez. During that seventh inning the 66ers were unable to score despite having two men in scoring position with none out.
Paul Koss took the loss in the contest after being unable to record an out in the 9th and surrendering a bases loaded single to Josh Ford for the game winning RBI. Ford also had the game winning three run double the night before.
The 66ers will be back on the diamond Saturday night in Visalia, where first pitch time is scheduled for 7:05. You can hear all the action, beginning with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians' pregame show, at 6:55 PM on KCAA 1050 AM, with Sam Farber on the call.
Inland Empire returns home Monday, April 26th to start a seven game series. The homestand includes a Saturday Fireworks Spectacular on May 1st, and a USC themed Dodger hat giveaway Sunday, May 2nd sponsored by the san Manuel Band of Mission Indians. Tickets can be bought at the team website www.66ers.com, with no print at home fees this season, or to get group ticketing information call the Inland Empire 66ers front office at (909)888-9922.
