Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers matched a season-best fifth straight victory with a 7-6 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in ten innings on Thursday at San Manuel Stadium. Stephen McGee singled up the middle past a five-man infield with one out to score Mike Fish for the Sixers in the extra frame.

McGee had already delivered in the game. The 66ers led in the first 1-0 on Andrew Daniel's RBI single but with two outs McGee drilled a two-run single to make it 3-0 lead. The base-hit knocked Quakes starter Jeff Brigham out of the contest after only 0.2IP but 38 pitches. The Sixers made it 4-0 in the third on Kody Eaves' RBI single.

The Quakes touched IE starter Sean Newcomb for a run in the fourth and another in the sixth. The Angels 2014 first-round draft pick went 5.2 IP allowing two runs on two hits with four walks and seven Ks in a no-decision. Each team scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The Quakes would tie the game against the 66ers pen however. Rancho Cucamonga scored three runs in the eighth against IE reliever Brian Loconsole. Johan Mieses' two-run homer (4) was the big blast in the frame. The Quakes tied the game in the ninth against 66ers closer Geoff Broussard when Webster Rivas doubled to open the frame. Pinch runner Delvis Morales eventually tied the game 6-6 on Tim Locastro's sac fly. Broussard was attempting to save his third game in three days. It was his first blown save in 12 chances and the first run he has allowed in July.

That set up the 66ers rally to win it in the tenth. Mike Fish doubled to right on a 0-2 pitch from Quakes reliever Rob Rogers (5-3). Rancho Cucamonga eventually intentionally walked two batters to load the bases with two outs. The Quakes brought in a fifth infielder from the outfield but McGee drilled a clean single into center to give the Sixers the 7-6 win.

Inland Empire (47-47, 12-12) moved back to .500 on the year with the win while the Quakes dropped to 52-43 overall and 11-14 in the second half. The 66ers are now 11-5 against the first-half Southern Division champs on the campaign.

The series continues on Friday at 7:05 pm. It can be heard live at 66ers.com.
