Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Opening a seven-game homestand, the JetHawks received strong pitching from Keegan Yuhl and Bryan Radziewski to end a five-game skid with a 6-1 win over the Stockton Ports on Thursday night at The Hangar.
Yuhl established two career highs with six strikeouts over five innings of work for the JetHawks (50-46). The right-hander allowed just one unearned run on three hits and walked one. Radziewski (3-3) pitched the final four innings as the tandem starter, retiring the first ten batters he faced before a runner reached base via an error in the ninth. Radziewski struck out three and did not allow a hit or a walk.
Ronnie Mitchell extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a game-tying solo home run in the seventh inning against Pat Venditte.
With the score tied at 1-1 entering the bottom of the sixth, Derek Fisher led off for the JetHawks with an infield single and stole second base. Jamie Ritchie followed with a walk, and Chase McDonald plated the go-ahead run with a RBI-single to right-center. After a walk loaded the bases with two out, Mott Hyde cleared the bases with a three-run double to extend Lancaster's lead to 5-1. All four runs came against rehabbing right-hander Taylor Thompson (0-1), who lasted just 0.2 innings.
Ritchie also hit his first home run as a JetHawk in the seventh inning, a solo shot off Stockton's Sam Roberts.
The Ports had opened the scoring in the top of the third. B.J. Boyd was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brett Vertigan reached on a fielding error by second baseman Jose Fernandez. McDonald then misplayed a slow grounder to first base by Branden Cogswell, allowing Boyd to score from second.
The series continues on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at The Hangar. Lancaster will send Francis Martes to the mound for his high-A debut against Stockton's Matt Stalcup (1-1, 3.83). The JetHawks will be hosting Friday Night Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Anheuser-Busch.
