66ers Cast Spell on Wizards in 112-102 Victory

Tulsa, Okla., Mar. 22, 2009 - Moses Ehambe came off the bench to score 25 points, one off his career-high, in a 112-102 victory for the Tulsa 66ers over the Dakota Wizards on Sunday. The game shaped up to be a three-point shooting dual between Ehambe and Dakota's Blake Ahearn, with Ehambe shooting 5-for-12 and Ahearn 4-of-9 from downtown en route to a game-high 29 points.

"Being on the second game of a back-to-back is always tough," 66ers Head Coach Paul Woolpert said. "We came out with the energy and fire that we needed to beat a very good team."

Two early turnovers to start the game left the 66ers in a 7-2 hole, but they subsequently went on a 7-2 run of their own, as Yemi Ogunoye hit two free throws and dished an assist to Gary Forbes for a three that tied the game at nine apiece. Both teams battled back-and-forth through the first quarter, and Tulsa took a 27-22 advantage into the break. Tulsa shot 50 percent in the quarter, and Ahearn put up nine points but the Wizards shot just 8-for-22 in the period.

Ehambe went 3-for-6 from three, and 6-for-10 in the second quarter, scoring 17 points that helped Tulsa build a 17-point advantage heading into halftime. The 66ers shot 16-for-26 (61.5 percent) on 10 assists in the quarter. Ahearn scored nine points in the period, giving him 18 at the half. The 65 points in the first half for the 66ers was a season-high.

The 66ers pushed their lead to 21 points at 102-81 with 8:20 remaining in the game, after Ehambe buried two more threes, and Derrick Dial added another three-pointer. Will Frisby scored 10 points in the final period for Dakota, as they shot 57.9 percent and added 13 rebounds in the quarter.

The Wizards finished with six players in double figures, led by Ahearn. Frisby added 17 points and seven rebounds, while Jesse Smith contributed 14 points and eight rebounds in a reserve role. Both Maurice Baker and Richard Hendrix finished with double-doubles, as Baker put up 11 points, grabbed 12 boards and added seven assists, while Hendrix had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Romel Beck finished with 10 points and three steals.

Tulsa finished with seven players in double digit scoring, led by Ehambe off the bench. D.J. White, on assignment from the Oklahoma City Thunder, had his second double-double with the 66ers with 17 points, 11 rebounds to go along with three blocks. Dial came off the bench to score 15 points. Forbes added 14 points and four assists, while Keith Clark put up 12 points, nine boards and three blocks. Ogunoye finished with 10 points, five assists and two blocks in the win.

The loss for Dakota (23-20) is their fourth straight, and third in a row on the road. They will head back home for a four-game home stand, starting on Wednesday, March 25 vs. Albuquerque.

Tulsa (11-32) takes their two-game winning streak on the road to Rio Grande Valley on Friday, March 27 before heading back home for a clash against the Bakersfield Jam the following Sunday.
