IFL Bay Area Panthers

6.9 Yards and a Cloud of Dust

June 1, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Bay Area Panthers News Release

Duke City came out firing last Sunday night. The Gladiators dominated the first half 30-7 with their stout defense and strong rushing attack and never looked back. It was a struggle on the ground for Bay Area, as they only managed 2.3 yards a carry running the ball.

Key Plays

After a tough start to the game, the Panthers were finally able to get on the board after this Kameron Pleasant touchdown.

The dynamic Raysean Pringle came up with his third interception of the year. He has become more than just an elite return specialist for this Panther squad.

Number of the Game

6.9

Duke City controlled the game running the ball. They averaged an impressive 6.9 yards along with a pair of rushing touchdowns. It is hard to be defeated when you control the game in the trenches as well as the Gladiators were able to this outing.

Contrarian Concept

Things get a little wild on this week's contrarian concept. The play starts out like a pretty basic RPO. The wide receiver on the left is forward motioning which in turn should make his man back pedal and open up room for a slant. If the mike linebacker or the safety do not cover the slant, we throw the ball. If one of the two plugs up the slant, we go to phase two of the play.

In this scenario the mid field safety clamps down on the slant. This gives the quarter back a "give" read to the running back. The running back then keys on the other middle of the field player (the mike linebacker in this case) and has a pop pass option depending on whether the linebacker plugs the strong side A gap or not. If he does, the running back throws a pop pass to the forward motion man on the post to the right. His defender should be dropping back and allowing this hole in the coverage to open up in the middle of the field. If the line backer stays back, the running back carries the ball up the middle.

Thanks for stopping by! Come back in a couple weeks after the third meeting with the Northern Arizona Wranglers on May 21st @ 6:05 PST. Take care. Print Friendly Version
