Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, Ore. - Five former Portland Winterhawks will compete in the NHL's 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs, beginning Monday, April 17. Ten alumni have lifted Lord Stanley's Cup - most recently Braydon Coburn with Tampa Bay in 2020 - and 131 Winterhawks have laced up and played in the NHL, showcasing the 'Portland to the Pros' connection.

The five alumni (alphabetically) playing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs are:

Oliver Bjorkstrand - Seattle Kraken

Matt Dumba - Minnesota Wild

Adin Hill - Vegas Golden Knights

Seth Jarvis - Carolina Hurricanes

Nino Niederreiter - Winnipeg Jets

Bjorkstrand, acquired by the Seattle Kraken in a summer trade with Columbus, enjoyed a strong return to the Pacific Northwest. Playing in 81 games, Bjorkstrand ranked seventh in team scoring with 45 points, and helped guide Seattle to its first-ever postseason berth and 100-point campaign. Since the beginning of March, Bjorkstrand has exploded offensively with nine goals and 15 points in his last 22 games. The native of Denmark and two-time 100+ point scorer as a Winterhawk will compete for the Stanley Cup for the fifth time in his career.

Dumba, 28, will compete with the Minnesota Wild in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the eighth year. Dumba played in 79 games this season as an alternate captain (two games shy of 600 career NHL games) and amassed 14 points from the backend. He played with Portland during the 2013-14 campaign and produced 42 points in 47 combined WHL regular season and playoff games with the Hawks.

Hill, 26, was traded to Vegas in the offseason and posted strong numbers in net with the Golden Knights. Owning a 16-7-1 record and a .915 save percentage, Hill is prepared to compete for his first Stanley Cup. He is no stranger to tournament hockey, having won a gold medal with Hockey Canada at the 2021 World Championships and twice competed in the WHL Playoffs with the Winterhawks while owning the league's highest save percentage (92.1%) during his first junior season.

The Carolina Hurricanes won the Metropolitan Division with 52 wins and 113 points all while getting healthy production from second-year forward Seth Jarvis. During his sophomore season, the 21-year-old winger produced 39 points while playing in all 82 regular season games. During his first taste of the Stanley Cup Playoff in 2022, Jarvis recorded eight points in 14 playoff games with the 'Canes. Now, the Winterhawks' 2021 Team MVP looks to claim his first hardware in the National League.

Niederreiter, 30, was sent to Winnipeg at the trade deadline and helped the Jets get back in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Splitting time between Nashville and Winnipeg, the Swiss forward collected 41 points in 78 games and embarks on a quest for the Cup for the fifth consecutive year. During his junior days, Niederreiter helped the Winterhawks advance to the WHL Finals and was recognized as a second-team WHL Western Conference All-Star following a 36-goal and 60-point rookie campaign.

The Hawks would like to congratulate our NHL alumni on terrific regular seasons and we wish them good luck in this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs!
