Iowa Barnstormers News Release
Milwaukee, WI - For most of three quarters Friday night, the Iowa Barnstormers looked like a team that was well on it's way toward posting their third straight victory. However, untimely turnovers led to a fierce 4th quarter rally by the Mustangs. When the dust had settled, Milwaukee came out on top with an 83-49 victory in a game that was much closer than the scoreboard would indicate.
Iowa started out strong, leading 14-13 after the first quarter of play. Quarterback Brian Lee-Lauduski, filling in for an injured Brad Banks fired four first half touchdown passes as the Barnstormers entered the locker room with a 35-29 halftime lead. In the third quarter, the Mustangs quickly scored twice to take a brief 42-35 lead, but the Barnstormers countered with a 4 yard TD run by Rodney Filer to even the score at 42-42 as the final quarter began
As the fourth quarter began, the Mustangs scored back-to-back touchdowns giving them a 56-42 lead. Iowa would cut the lead to 56-49 on Jesse Schmidt's 3rd touchdown of the night. Schmidt finished the night with 12 catches for 147 yards and 3TD's making him the first Barnstormer ever to record 50TD and over 2,000 yards in one season. However, this was as close as Iowa would get as Milwaukee forced turnovers on the Barnstormers next 3 possessions and all led directly to scores. Milwaukee outscored Iowa 41-7 in the final frame and the rout was on.
The loss ends Iowa's brief 2 game winning streak and drops the Barnstormers to 5-12 on the season, while the Mustangs improve to 6-11.
