Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

KNOXVILLE, TN. (January 17, 2015) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers took their second consecutive loss to Knoxville on Saturday night with a final score of 4-3 and fall to second place in the SPHL standings behind the Ice Bears.

The night featured the first start for Andrew Flemming in net for Pensacola. Of course much was at stake as the winner would break the 1st place tie. It was yet again a playoff environment at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum with the 4,787 in attendance.

The Ice Bears came out strong with immediate pressure on Flemming. Pensacola was able to turn the momentum around and outshoot Knoxville 11-7, however the period would end scoreless for both teams.

Unlike the night before, it was Pensacola to strike first with a goal by Nick McParland from Phil Tesoriero and Corey Banfield at 4:48 into the second period. The lead would not last long as Ice Bears' Eric Satim would score twenty-eight seconds later to even the game at one all. With time running down, Knoxville would break the tie at the 17:41 mark with a goal from Robbie Donahoe to end the period with a 2-1 lead for the Ice Bears.

Just 1:09 into the third, Ice Flyers' captain Brett Lutes made it a tie game for the second time in the game. A hooking penalty on Justin Fillion would give the Ice Bears a chance to take the lead back, and that they did with a power play goal from Donahoe for his second of the game at the 4:19 mark. Francis Drolet would add another tally at 8:01 for Knoxville for the two-goal lead.

Like the night before, the Ice Flyers found themselves trailing by two goals late in the game. A power-play goal by Jon Puskar from Nick Lazorko and Daniel Sova put Pensacola back within one with just under five minutes left in regulation. The Ice Flyers had to resort to pulling Flemming from the net towards the end for the extra man. Pensacola managed to put pressure on Braely Torris who stood tall in net. With less than twelve seconds on the clock, Ryan Salvis would be penalized and ejected for verbal abuse of officials giving the Ice Flyers the extra man advantage, but time would expire and Knoxville would pull off the victory with a final score of 4-3.

Pensacola now finds themselves in second place behind Knoxville with a record of 17-8-4 for a total of 38 points. The Ice Flyers are in Columbus today to face the Cottonmouths at 3 p.m. this afternoon. You can catch all Ice Flyers' away games at Beef O Brady's in downtown Pensacola or 9 mile road. All games are available on SPHLLive.com as well.
