3 Days Left: Vote to Name the Annual In-State Rivalry Series Between Las Vegas Lights FC and Nevada's Other FC
March 9, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Las Vegas Lights FC News Release
LAS VEGAS - The battle for soccer supremacy in the state of Nevada will have a name in 2018 and beyond. And soccer fans state-wide will be the ones deciding on that name.
The first United Soccer League (USL) regular season home match in Lights FC history comes on Saturday, March 24th, at 8 p.m. at Cashman Field, with Nevada's Other FC making the trip south for the first meeting. The second and third meetings - Aug. 28 and Sept. 22, respectively - take place up north.
Voting on the name of the series will be left completely up to the fans of both teams in the state via an independent web site arranged by both clubs. Less than 72 hours of voting remains, as fans can vote or submit name ideas at nevadasoccervote.com until midnight on Sunday, March 11. On that site, fans can also submit ideas for a trophy, which will be awarded to the series' annual winner. The official name and sponsor of the series will be announced prior to the March 24 showdown.
"In the state of Nevada, there are two soccer teams - Las Vegas Lights FC and them - and that is very good for the game of soccer," Lights FC head coach ChelÃs said. "The number one team is Las Vegas Lights FC, the number two is them. This great truth will be confirmed by Lights FC on March 24th at Cashman Field."
"First we win Nevada, then we win USL - Those are our club's top on-field priorities," Lights FC Owner & CEO Brett Lashbrook said.
For Lights FC, the first match in the series will be only the club's second regular season game in history, as the team opens on the road on Saturday, March 17, at Fresno FC. Nevada's Other FC is entering its second USL season. They did OK, we guess, last season, finishing 17-7-8 and 3rd in the USL Western Conference. They happened to luck their way into the conference quarterfinals before experiencing the crushing sensation of defeat.
