Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
A fresh look to a late-summer tradition for the Moose Jaw Warriors.
The Warriors' annual summer kids camp is now the Warriors Fantasy Kids Camp and will give young hockey players an opportunity to spend three days as a member of the team this August.
"We just want to take it that next step above, what we're bringing to the table this year is completely different," said Hayley Hart-Rushinko, Warriors' manager of special events and hockey programs.
"We just thought there was more we could be offering, two ice times was great and to be able to offer it with our excellent coaching staff as well as some of our players popping in too, that was wonderful, but we wanted to give more to these kids."
The elite conditioning ice times have been removed from the camp, which will now focus on three different age groups - 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10.
"They still have the two ice-times, they'll have a lot of activities to do throughout the day and it's a full 9-5 slate for three full days," Hart-Rushinko said.
"We want these kids to feel like they're getting the full experience, they come here, they're going to have dry-land training, some stretching, some nutrition, some of those other aspects that go into an athlete's world."
The idea is to prepare the players for the upcoming season by giving them an opportunity to see how the Warriors' prepare.
"We want to make it easier for them once they're on the ice and working on some of those techniques with our coaches, learning those proper ways to take care of their bodies," Hart-Rushinko said.
Each group will be paired up with two players that will be spending the day with them and give them those unique moments with the team.
"Head coach Mark O'Leary wanted to do it this way," Hart-Rushinko said.
"Our guys love doing this, they love being a part of the community and getting chances to spend time with the kids that look up to them.
"When you see a child looking up at one of our Moose Jaw Warriors, the joy in their eyes, you can't describe it, they're so excited to be sharing the ice or sharing the floor with one of our players."
The camp costs $400 plus taxes and will run from August 17-19. Registration is open now, contact hayley@mjwarriors.com to register or stop by the Warriors' office at Mosaic Place.
