2018-19 Season in Review: Isaiah Hicks
NEW YORK, NY - Two-Way Player Isaiah Hicks of the Westchester Knicks and New York Knicks exhibited hints of improvements from his dominant season a year ago but due to numerous injuries, considerable progress was stalled.
Injury resisted Hicks' predicted potential this year succumbing to ankle, hamstring, groin and back injuries. In 2017-18, where Hicks was also a Two-Way Player, the big averaged 15.6 points on 57.5-percent, 8.0 rebounds (team-high), 1.5 assists and 2.0 blocks through 37 games. He started all but one of those contests.
This season, Hicks only dressed for 27 games and a pair of postseason appearances, all starts. In the regular season he averaged 16.5 points on 49.1-percent shooting, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 blocks. This included 23 games scoring double-figures, 10 games with 20 points or more and eight games registered 10 or more rebounds.
Prior to a two-game absence, Hicks started the season's first nine games as the team's second-leading scorer (18.2 ppg), second-leading rebounder (9.2 rpg), second-leading shot blocker (1.8 bpg). He shot the ball better than anyone else with at last 40 attempts at a 53.6-percent clip. He also led everyone on the offensive glass (26 total offensive boards).
Following the two-game hiatus, Hicks went on to average 14.7 points on 47.7-percent in nine games, 6.4 rebounds (team-leading with all games played in the window), and 1.6 blocks (team-leading with all games played in the window). Hicks did not compete for more than three consecutive games for the duration of the season.
Despite his intermittent availability, his outside shooting improved. He drained 21 triples this season contrasting his three total makes last year.
Hicks ranks first all-time in franchise history with 345 rebounds, third in blocks (123) and third in points scored (1024).
Hicks appeared in three games with the New York Knicks averaging 4.0 points and 2.3 rebounds.
