July 3, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Windsor Spitfires News Release
General Manager Warren Rychel is pleased to announce prospect Nick Gauvin has committed to the club, joining the Spitfires by signing a standard player agreement and education package.
Gauvin, 16, is a 6'3, 180-pound defenceman chosen in the 4th Round, #72 overall, back in April's 2014 OHL Priority Selection.
The Courtice, Ontario native attended Yale Hockey Academy in Abbotsford, B.C. last year, where he was a key contributor for the Yale U16 Lions of the C.S.S.H.L's Elite 15's division. He recorded two goals and six assists with 36 penalty minutes in 24 games played, while developing a strong defensive presence, adding a goal and four penalty minutes in four playoff games.
Gauvin made great strides over the course of the season, according to Yale's Executive Director, Billy Wilms.
"Nick thrived in an environment that celebrated athleticism and scholastic excellence," Wilms said. "He was on the honour roll every term and added to his skill set on the ice." Rychel says Gauvin is a young player on the rise.
"Nick is a big defender that moves well and has an excellent future," Rychel said. "We're looking forward to having him at training camp in August."
