PORTLAND, MAINE - The Maine Red Claws today announced the schedule for the 2012-13 season. The Red Claws will play a 50-game schedule, with 24 games at home, 24 on the road and two games at the NBA Development League Showcase. The NBA D-League Showcase will be held January 7-10 in Reno, NV with the specific game schedule to be announced at a later date.
The Red Claws will open the 2012-13 season with a pair of games on the road, tipping off their fourth NBA Development League season at Canton with a Friday, November 23 match up at the Canton Charge before heading to Fort Wayne on Sunday, November 25 to take on the Mad Ants. The team will open up the home portion of the schedule on Friday, November 30 when the Los Angeles D-Fenders make their first-ever trip to Maine, followed by a rare visit by the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Sunday, December 2, their first trip to the league's eastern-most city since the Red Claws' inaugural season.
The Red Claws will play 24 home games at the Portland Expo this season, with 19 of those games falling on weekend dates. Of the 19 weekend contests, eight will fall on Fridays, six on Saturdays and seven on Sundays. The team will play a total of eight afternoon games, with Sunday contests tipping off at 1 PM, 3 PM or 5 PM and two special Monday games with 1 PM starts, including New Year's Eve, to enable families with young children to attend.
Maine fans will have the opportunity to see 10 of the Red Claws' 15 NBA D-League opponents at the Portland Expo during the 2012-13 season. Making their way to Maine this season will be: Los Angeles D-Fenders, Sioux Falls Skyforce, Fort Want Mad Ants, Canton Charge, Erie BayHawks, Springfield Armor, Iowa Energy, Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Bakersfield Jam. Also making their first trip to Maine will be the as-yet-unnamed NBA D-League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors.
The Red Claws will be a part of the newly-realigned East Division along with Springfield, Erie, Canton, and Fort Wayne. The NBADL will feature three divisions with former East Conference rivals Iowa and Sioux Falls moving to the Central Division with Tulsa, Austin, Texas and Rio Grande Valley. Idaho, Reno, Bakersfield, Los Angeles and Golden State's NBA D-League affiliate making up the West Division.
NBA TV will present over 30 NBADL games this season, including the NBA D-League Game of the Week airing each Sunday during the regular season, as well as postseason coverage. The network will also provide coverage during the NBA D-League Showcase and the NBA D-League All-Star Game taking place in Houston during NBA All-Star 2013. CBS Sports Network will feature 12 live regular season games, including two from the 2013 NBA D-League Showcase, as well as 2013 NBA D-League Playoffs and Finals action. Local coverage of Red Claws games on Time Warner Cable will be announced at a later date. All Red Claws game are broadcast live on The Big Jab 96.3 FM.
