2011-12 IceMen Schedule Announced
August 15, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN.--- Set to ring-in the electric excitement of the new pro hockey season in their new state-of-the-art home of the Downtown Evansville Arena, the Evansville IceMen have announced on this date their regular season game schedule for the rapidly-approaching 2011-12 Central Hockey League season.
The IceMen will participate in a league schedule consisting of 66-games spread over a period of some 25-weeks, spanning from Friday, October 21, 2011 to the regular season finale on Sunday, March 25, 2012.
The new IceMen schedule will accentuate and otherwise emphasize league-wide rivalries with 26 of their listed 33-home dates considered weekend appearances along with several outstanding holiday season dates with the latter always popular for family fun entertainment. Embarking on their second year as a bona fide AA/CHL member club, the IceMen will be presenting their 33-home game events in their all-new home of the Downtown Evansville Arena.
Included in this season's IceMen schedule of home appearances, specifically, are 13-FRIDAY NIGHTS; 6-SATURDAY NIGHTS and 7-SUNDAY DATES. Moreover the IceMen have 4-prime, premium home dates during the Christmas holiday week spanning from December 23rd to December 31st. The IceMen will be introducing two new starting times for their home schedule this season. Monday through Saturday games will have an opening face-off of 7:15 PM while all Sunday games with the exception of January 8th will be slated for 5:00 PM. The January 8th date against Bloomington will have a 7:15 lift-off.
For the first time in franchise history, the IceMen will host their First Annual Education Day game with this game set for WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Downtown Evansville Arena against the Arizona Sun Dogs.
The home opening night for the IceMen as they play their first-ever game in the Downtown Evansville Arena will be SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5TH at 7:15 PM against their principal archrivals, their in-state foes, the Fort Wayne Komets. Evansville's actual regular season inaugural contest is set for SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22ND in Fort Wayne against the K's.
The 2011-12 Central Hockey League will be comprised of 14-teams divided into two 7-teams' conferences. The Turner Conference will be composed of the IceMen, along with the re-named Bloomington Blaze, Dayton Gems, Fort Wayne Komets, Missouri Mavericks, Quad City Mallards and Rapid City Rush with the latter the defending conference kingpin. Meanwhile, the Berry Conference will have the following member clubs; the reigning conference titlists, Allen Americans, Arizona Sun Dogs, Laredo Bucks, Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, Texas Brahmas, Tulsa Oilers and Wichita Thunder.
The overall schedule will be of an unbalanced nature expressly to accent intra-conference rivalries as the IceMen will tangle with their fellow fractious foes from the Turner Conference in 51 of their 66-games. Fort Wayne will be Evansville's major opponent with 13-clashes on the docket between the two teams; 7 of those bouts will be waged in Evansville with the remaining half-dozen set in Fort Wayne. The IceMen will battle Bloomington and Dayton each 10-times (5-home, 5-away) with 7-dates also set against Rapid City (2-home, 5-away). The IceMen will lock antlers 6-times against Missouri (3-home, 3-away) and tackle Quad City 5-times (3-home, 2-away).
Completing the team-by-team breakdown, the IceMen will tangle with Wichita more frequently than any other Berry Conference representative; a total of 6-meetings with 4 of those on home ice. Evansville tackles Tulsa 3-times (1-home, 2-away) and Arizona (2-home, 0-away), Texas (1-home, 1-away) and Rio Grande Valley (0-home, 2-away) each twice during the campaign. This season will mark the first time in which the IceMen will have scheduled dates against Wichita, Texas and Rio Grande Valley. For the second straight year, Evansville has no games scheduled against Allen and Laredo.
The most ambitious month for the IceMen will be in February when they see action in 15-games in the shortest month of the calendar year. They also have 13-games listed for both December and January with 12 in March and 11 in November. The IceMen will make their most home appearances over the three months' period of December, January and February as 25 of their 33-home dates will be presented. In both December and February, there will be 9-home appearances with 7 more coming in January. The longest homestand of the season will be 5-games dating from December 18th through December 31st. Their longest road excursion of the campaign will be of 6-games from November 19th to December 2nd. The IceMen will also have a 5-game journey from March 6th to March 17th. In addition, the IceMen will actually launch the new season with a 3-game foreign ice junket with the first two affairs at the home of the Fort Wayners.
Ten times this season, the IceMen face the daunting assignment of 3-games in 3-days/nights. On another 5-occasions, they will confront the rigorous regimen of 4-games in 5-days/nights. Evansville opens and closes its regular season schedule with an abundance of foreign ice warfare as 5 of their first 6-games, 11 of their first 15-games will be away from home bay and 8 of their last 11-outings will be abroad.
The IceMen will be announcing their pre-season game schedule in the near future with a two-games' slate expected.
