Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in conjunction with the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced their schedule for the 2011-12 season on Monday. The Killer Bees will once again play a 66-game schedule evenly split between 33 at home and 33 on the road.
The season will open on October 21st at the State Farm Arena as the Bees play host to the Missouri Mavericks both Friday and Saturday night. The next weekend will be new Killer Bees General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski's return to Laredo at the Bees faceoff with the Bucks on Friday and Saturday night at the Laredo Energy Arena.
November is full of action at State Farm Arena as the Killer Bees have nine home dates in the first 19 days. Texas, Tulsa, Allen, Arizona and Laredo will all skate the State Farm Arena ice. Tulsa is returning to the Hive for only the third time ever, and the first since 2008-09.
During January the Killer Bees will make their first-ever trip to Rapid City, South Dakota to face the 2009-10 CHL Champion Rush at the Rushmore Civic Center. In February, both the Evansville IceMen and Bloomington Blaze will make their State Farm Arena debut.
In March, the Killer Bees continue their proud tradition of serving their community as they open their doors to the youth of the Valley in the ninth-annual Kids Day game. The Kids Day game is the final component of the Killer Bees Reading, Writing & Fitness Program in where the Killer Bees players and staff bring furthering education and physical fitness directly to elementary schools throughout the Valley.
At the end of March the Killer Bees will make their final northern road swing traveling to Bloomington and making their first-ever stops in Dayton and Quad Cities. The season will finish with a pair of home games against the Laredo Bucks on Saturday night and Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
"I am quite pleased with this schedule. We are bringing a ton of quality opponents to the Valley and have plenty of tough match-ups," said Killer Bees General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "I do however have full confidence that our team will be more than up to the challenge this season because of the type of team we are building. Tough teams and teams with character can win on the road and at home, that is the type of team we are building."
