2010 Triple-A All-Star Field Staffs Announced

June 18, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release

The International and Pacific Coast Leagues today announced their respective field staffs for the 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game at Lehigh Valley's Coca-Cola Park on Wednesday, July 14 at 7:00 p.m. eastern on MLB Network.

International League Field Staff

The IL squad will be managed by Durham's Charlie Montoyo. In his first three seasons in Durham, Montoyo took his team to three straight division titles and the 2009 Triple-A Baseball National Championship. He was named by Baseball America as the Minor League Manager of the Year, and Minor League Baseball honored Montoyo with the Mike Coolbaugh Award for outstanding work ethic, knowledge of the game, and mentoring of young players. His Bulls are currently leading the IL South Division.

Montoyo will be joined on the IL bench by Lehigh Valley's own manager Dave Huppert, serving as a coach. Huppert is the only field general the Lehigh Valley IronPigs have known since their inaugural season in 2008. He is currently third on the career wins list among active Minor League managers. The other coach on the IL staff will be Frank Kremblas, who is in his second year piloting the Indianapolis Indians. Kremblas is a former Manager of the Year and championship-winning skipper from his days with Nashville of the Pacific Coast League. The trainer for the International League team will be Lehigh Valley's Jason Kirkman. Kirkman is in his eighth season in the Phillies organization.

Pacific Coast League Field Staff

The Pacific Coast League All-Stars will be led by Daren Brown, who is in his fourth year managing the Tacoma Rainiers. Last year his club overcame a 7.5 game deficit over their final 17 games to win the PCL Pacific North Division, and they're right back in the thick of the race again in 2010. Brown is in the midst of his tenth season managing in the Seattle farm system, having also reached the playoffs each year from 2001 to 2004 at the Class-A level.

Salt Lake pitching coach Erik Bennett will serve that role for the PCL All-Stars. The former Angels pitcher is now in his 15th season with the organization as a coach, and his third with the Bees. Bennett also pitched in 17 games with the Salt Lake Buzz in 1996 during his 10-year playing career. Joining Brown and Bennett on the PCL Field Staff is Memphis' Mark Budaska. Budaska has served as a hitting coach for the previous two seasons in Memphis, before which he spent six years in the Boston farm system, including four in Pawtucket of the International League. The PCL trainer is Steve Miller of New Orleans. This is Miller's ninth season in the Marlins organization, and his sixth as Florida's Triple-A trainer.

The team that has sent more of its managers and coaches to the Triple-A All-Star Game than any other is Pawtucket. Ed Nottle (1988) and Buddy Bailey (2004) served as an All-Star manager. Bailey was also a coach in 1995, as was Ken Macha (1998), Rich Bombard (2000), Gary Jones (2001), Mike Griffin (2004) and Ron Johnson (2006).
