2009 U.S. Junior Select Team Roster Announced; Brickley and Miahlik Make the Cut

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - Today USA Hockey announced the 22-man roster, which includes two members of the Des Moines Buccaneers, for its 2009 U.S. Junior Select Team that will compete at the World Junior A Challenge in Summerside, P.E.I.

Buccaneer goalie Eric Mihalik and forward Connor Brickley will be making the trek from Des Moines to Prince Edward Island for the World Junior A Challenge November 1st - November 8th Brickley will join four of his teammate from the 2009 U.S. U.S. Under-18 Select Team that competed at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia.

The World Junior A Challenge is in its fourth year and the U.S. will be competing in the tournament for the third consecutive year. The U.S. won the championship in 2008 - former Buccaneers Matt White, Josh Balch and Rocco Carzo were members of the 2008 U.S. team - and garnered a third-place finish in 2007.

The U.S. roster includes 13 forwards, seven defenseman and two goaltenders. Fourteen states and nine USHL teams are represented. The Challenge will feature Belarus, Canada East, Canada West, Russia, Sweden and the United States. The U.S. team will be coached by Mark Carlson, head coach of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. He will be assisted by former Buccaneer and current Indiana Ice head coach, Jeff Blashill and Andy Jones, assistant coach of the Sioux Falls Stampede.
