P.E.I. Rocket News Release

The PEI Rocket are pleased to announce that on January 25, 2009 the fifth Annual Rockethon will take place on PEI. This event is co-sponsored by Hockey PEI and the PEI Rocket and both organizations are looking forward to yet another successful year for the Rockethon.

On the 25th of January, all members of the PEI Rocket, including players, coaches and management, will be dispersed to participating arenas throughout Prince Edward Island to take part in the Rockethon with each of the participating Hockey PEI Associations. Players canvass their local communities to receive pledges for their participation. One hundred percent of the funds raised remains with the individual associations and teams that participate.

"The Rockethon is a great chance for local Minor Hockey Associations to raise funds, to continue to improve their Minor Hockey Programs and to introduce the PEI Rocket Players throughout the Island communities," said Rob Newson, Executive Director, Hockey PEI.

"In four years this fundraiser has raised over $339,000 for minor hockey on the Island. The PEI Rocket organization takes great pride in supporting minor hockey across Prince Edward Island" added Rocket President Serge Savard Jr.

General Manager, Kent Hudson added that even though the Rockethon has no official sponsor this year, the Rocket organization is dedicated to the program and will absorb all costs associated with delivering the program throughout Prince Edward Island. Hudson added that, "this is a significant program for the entire Province of PEI...we are the PEI Rocket...we want to continue to be involved in community activities of this nature and this program is extremely important to continue".

The associations that have been selected to participate in this year's PEI Rockethon are: Bedeque, Borden-Carleton, Georgetown, Evangeline, Kensington, Sherwood Parkdale, Pownal, Belfast, South Shore, Charlottetown, and Montague.
