2004 four-week attendance up five percent over 2003

NEW YORK – Average attendance for the first four weeks of the 2004 season is up five percent vs. the first four weeks of the 2003 season, and up 12 percent vs. the 2003 season average.

The 2004 average attendance is 12,816 fans per game, up five percent from the 12,198 average after the first four weeks of the 2003 season. The 2004 average is up 12 percent vs. the 2003 season-average attendance of 11,397.

Last season's average attendance was up 14 percent vs. 2002 (9,957).

Total attendance through four weeks is 461,383, up 18 percent from the 390,342 total after the first four weeks of the 2003 season. There are 19 teams competing in the 2004 season compared to 16 in 2003.

AFL on NBC ratings are up six percent through four weeks vs. 2003. The 2004 rating is a 1.7 compared to a 1.6 for the first four weeks of the 2003 season, and is up 55 percent vs. the 2003 season average of 1.1.
