Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. â Edwin Bellorin's run-scoring single in the sixth inning gave the Suns all the lead they'd keep in a 4-3 victory over the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx in front 3,125 fans Friday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Bellorin singled with two outs, driving home Nick Theodorou, breaking a 3-3 tie. He also threw out Ryan Theriot trying to steal second base in the ninth inning. Because of a subsequent walk and single, Theriot would've likely scored the tying run against Suns closer Jason Frasor, who earned his 12th save in as many chances.
The Suns mustered a three-run, two-out rally in the third inning to tie the game. Jason Repko, Franklin Gutierrez and Reggie Abercrombie had hits in succession off Diamond Jaxx starter Sergio Mitre. Mitre (6-8) earned the defeat, allowing all four runs over 6-2/3 innings.
Gutierrez singled, doubled and tripled to pace the Suns (58-65 overall, 27-27 second half). Repko saved the tie in the top of the sixth when he threw out Mike Dzurilla from left field trying to score. That lent the victory to Suns starter Brian Pilkington (1-0) who allowed three runs and eight hits over six innings. Pilkington gave up four line drive base hits in the second inning which was part of the Diamond Jaxx's three-run outburst.
Jackson Melian and Ray Sadler had two hits each to lead West Tenn (59-65, 25-29).
Right-hander Edwin Jackson (7-6, 3.37 ERA) is scheduled to face Tennessee Smokies lefty Chris Narveson (3-1, 2.88) at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
