
BayBears Washington promoted to Triple-A

Mobile, Ala.--The Mobile BayBears Professional Baseball Club announced today that third baseman Rico Washington has been promoted to the Triple-A Portland Beavers of the Pacific Coast League. The move was made by the BayBears' major league affiliate, the San Diego Padres, after the Beavers lost second baseman Bernie Castro to a season-ending knee injury.
Washington was batting .244 with 14 home runs and 60 runs batted in with Mobile. He was second on the BayBears in games played (111), second in runs scored (60), second in home runs and second in RBI. He was also leading the league in fielding percentage by third basemen.
Washington will not be immediately replaced on the Mobile roster.
The BayBears open a four game series with first place Huntsville Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium at 7:05 PM. The BayBears enter Friday night's game three games out of first place with 17 games to play.
