Hitter of the Week
JEREMY REED â BIRMINGHAM BARONS
Birmingham Barons' outfielder Jeremy Reed was named the BC Powder Southern League Hitter of the Week for the second time this season. Reed hit .480 (12-25), drove in five runs and scored six times. The rightfielder/centerfielder pounded out five extra-base hits including four doubles and a home run. For the week, the 22-year old had a .760 slugging percentage and a .576 on-base percentage. The Chicago White Sox selected Reed in the second round of the June 2002 draft out of Long Beach State University. He resides in La Verne, CA.
Pitcher of the Week
ENEMENCIO PACHECO â BIRMINGHAM BARONS
Birmingham Barons' starter Enemencio Pacheco was honored as the BC Powder Southern League Pitcher of the Week after two fantastic performances. It marks the second consecutive week that the award goes to a Birmingham starter. On August 8, the righthander baffled the Chattanooga Lookouts for seven and one-third innings in picking up the win. The 24-year-old gave up one run on three hits while striking out five and walking one. Pacheco followed that performance on August 13, when he shutout the Mobile BayBears for six innings on his way to victory, surrendering six hits and striking out five. For the week, Pacheco pitched 13 innings, giving up one run on nine hits will striking out 10, walking one, and one hit batsmen. The Chicago White Sox acquired Pacheco in a trade with the Colorado Rockies in 2002. The Rockies originally signed Pacheco as a nondrafted free agent in 1997. He resides in Santo Domingo, DR.
