Moncton Wildcats News Release
The Moncton Wildcats are proud to announce the launch of the 14th annual Reading is Wild Campaign in conjunction with OMISTA Credit Union and the Times & Transcript.
The Reading is Wild program, first launched in 1998, was created to utilize the popularity of the Moncton Wildcats as a motivational tool to help encourage kids to read - not only for school but also for FUN!
Over the past 14 years, over 576,000 books have been read by local area students!
OMISTA Credit Union is thrilled to again be the title sponsor of this year's OMSTA Credit Union Reading Is Wild program. An important focus for Credit Unions is education and providing wise financial guidance for its customers. The partnership with the Wildcats let's OMISTA be part of another type of education, helping to ensure our youth embrace reading and understand its importance.
Currently there are three schools in District 2 participating this year and each school has set their own goal for books read:
- Claude D.Taylor School Reading Goal: 15,000
- Northrop Frye School Reading Goal: 38,000
- Birchmount School Reading Goal: 30,000
There is one school participating from District 1
- Ãcole Sainte-Bernadette Reading Goal: 6,500
The first two assemblies were held at Ãcole Sainte-Bernadette and Birchmount School on November 13th. Each week one student will be selected as the OMISTA Credit Union Reader of the Week and will be featured in the Times Transcript. OMISTA Credit Union is inviting all schools to attend a Wildcats game to be recognized for their outstanding effort.
As an added incentive, for every book read by the students, OMISTA Credit Union is depositing $1 to savings accounts. Students at participating schools simply need to visit an OMISTA branch with a parent or guardian to open a Free & Easy account. Students will receive up to $25 each for the books they read as part the OMISTA Credit Union Reading Is Wild program. The Free & Easy account is part of OMISTA's enhanced focus on youth and the important role they play in our communities and our future. "The students from the Reading Is Wild program will be rewarded for reading and be able to take advantage of the Free & Easy account. It's designed for anyone under the age of 25. So whether someone is still in school or in the early stages of their career, they won't pay any standard service charges. They can use any Credit Union ATM in the Atlantic provinces surcharge-free, and on-line banking is free as well. It's simple to sign up. Free & Easy! We also hope these students will continue as customers with OMISTA so they can take advantage of OMISTA Credit Union Bursaries toward their post-secondary education." says Senior Marketing Manager Trisha Leaver.
