Cleveland Monsters News Release
The Lake Erie Monsters have announced that all 76 games during the 2014-15 regular season will once again air live over the Monsters Radio Network, with three stations carrying a slate of Monsters games. Monsters hockey action can be heard on ESPN 850 WKNR, AM 1420 "The Answer", and 99X this season. Doug Plagens returns for his fourth season as Voice of the Monsters, and will provide play-by-play for every game.
Serving as co-flagship stations, ESPN 850 WKNR and AM 1420 "The Answer" will each carry 36 games live. ESPN 850 WKNR has aired Monsters games since the team's inception in 2007, while a Salem Communications-owned station will serve as a co-flagship for the fourth consecutive season. In addition, iHeartMedia-owned 99X, "Cleveland's New Rock Alternative" will carry a special four-game package of Monsters hockey action during the '14-15 season.
"The Monsters have become a staple on ESPN Cleveland throughout the past eight years," said ESPN Cleveland General Manager Keith Williams. "We're excited to continue the partnership and bring fans all the hard-hitting action from play-by-play announcer Doug Plagens."
"For the past four seasons and entering a fifth, we have developed a strong partnership with the Monsters organization and are proud to work with them in putting together a quality broadcast. One that entertains, and one that the listeners can enjoy and respect," said Mark Jaycox, General Manager of Salem Communications of Northeast Ohio.
"In a relatively short period of time, this franchise has carved out a spot at the top of the league with the grit and determination that match perfectly with the sport of hockey, and with the corporate philosophy of a company like Salem Communications and AM 1420 The Answer," Jaycox said.
"99X and iHeartMedia are proud to partner with a first class organization like the Monsters. 99X is an exciting station, and our listeners will certainly enjoy quality broadcasts and the excitement of Monsters hockey," said Keith Abrams, Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia. iHeartMedia was formerly Clear Channel Media & Entertainment.
"As we enter into our eighth season of Monsters Hockey in Cleveland, we're very excited to have a great radio team for our fans in Northeast Ohio to listen to every game live," said Monsters SVP / COO Mike Ostrowski. With Good Karma Brands (ESPN Cleveland - 850 WKNR) and Salem Communications (WHK - AM 1420 The Answer), we look forward to having them back as our flagships for the 2014-15 season. We're also thrilled to add iHeartMedia (99X) to our broadcast team and for the Monsters to be heard on both AM and FM this year."
Plagens returns for his fourth season as the Voice of the Monsters. He serves in the same capacity for the Cleveland Gladiators, Quicken Loans Arena's Arena Football League team. While handling play-by-play, pregame, intermission, and postgame coverage, Plagens, 29, will call his 500th professional hockey game this season.
