Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

The Vero Beach Dodgers broke a 6-game losing streak and won for the first time since August 23 with a 6-3 victory over the St. Lucie Mets Saturday night at Holman Stadium. Matt Kemp hit his franchise-record 27th home run and the Dodgers set a team record for doubles in a season during the game. Blake DeWitt continued his hot hitting, going 2-5 with 2 RBI. The regular season concludes Sunday at 1:00 PM with the final Sunday Fun Day at Holman Stadium. The playoffs begin Tuesday with a 7:05 PM game at Palm Beach.

Chuck Tiffany threw five no-hit innings for the Dodgers. He struck out nine, but walked seven. He left with a 2-0 lead, courtesy of Kemp's home run and a DeWitt RBI single. He did not get the win due to a 2-run sixth for the Mets that tied the score.

Vero went back on top in the bottom of the sixth. Jimmy Rohan walked and stole second. Jamie Hoffman singled him in with two outs.

The Dodgers put it away in the 8th. Hoffman singled with one out and Anthony Raglani was hit by a pitch to reach base for the fourth time in the game. Travis Denker doubled in the two baserunners and DeWitt also doubled to score Denker, making it 6-2.

The Mets scored one run in the ninth, but Mark Alexander held on for his 23rd save of the season. He struck out two batters in two innings to give Vero Beach 12 strikeouts overall for the game. That leaves the Mets hitters four strikeouts shy of setting the Florida State League record which has held since 1950.
