Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, FL - After a two hour rain delay the Fort Myers Miracle and Sarasota Reds were locked in a pitchers duel with the Miracle coming up on the short end of a 2-1 defeat on Saturday night at Hammond Stadium.

Miracle starter Anthony Swarzak came out of the gates firing on all cylinders by striking out the side in the first. That set the tone of the night.

The Miracle got on the board first in the fifth when Brock Peterson singled to right. He moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Jose Leger's single to center. That was the only offense the Miracle would get. They managed just four hits, the other's coming on a Jake Mauer single in the first and Matt Tolbert's single in the ninth to extend his hitting streak to 11. Kyle Geiger was 0-4 snapping his hitting streak at 14.

Swarzak made just one mistake and it came in the sixth. He gave up a lead off single to center to Chris Dickerson. The next batter, Jeff Urgelles, hit a fastball over the left field wall for his second homer of the season. That proved to be the difference in the ballgame. Swarzak went seven innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out 11, but got the loss. Chris Schutt threw two perfect innings out of the bullpen for the Miracle.

The same two teams meet in the final game of the season Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at Hammond Stadium. The Miracle will send RHP Scott Tyler (7-8, 3.95) to the hill against Reds RHP Eddy Valdez (3-2, 2.10). Any fans holding a ticket from Saturday night's game, used or unused, can bring it to the game Sunday and exchange it for Sunday's game.
