Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Right-hander, *Zach Lovvorn*, struck out a season-high nine batters and *Frank Schwindel* clobbered his fifth home run of the season; but the Naturals dropped a tight game at Hammons Field on Friday night by a 4-3 final score. Northwest Arkansas finished the seven-game, rain-shortened road trip, 4-3.
Lovvorn (2-2, 2.78) gritted out seven strong innings of work. The right-hander retired the final eight batters faced to end his outing; but the Cardinals scored a pair of runs in the third and single tallies against the starter in the fourth and fifth innings.
Northwest Arkansas (14-13) took an early 1-0 lead when Schwindel jumped all over a *Jack Flaherty (5-0, 0.69) *fastball to begin the second inning and sent the pitch deep into the left-field bullpen. The home run is the fifth of the season for Schwindel and with it, he drove home his 22nd run of the season. Northwest Arkansas hit eight home runs over the seven-game road trip.
The Naturals attempted a late-comeback in the ninth inning against the Springfield (14-13) bullpen. *Samir Duenez* extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a lead-off single to begin the frame. Schwindel coaxed a walk and *Mauricio Ramos* smacked a broken-bat single into left-field to load the bases.
*Zane Evans *took a *Kevin Herget* 1-1 pitch into centerfield to plate two runs, cutting the Naturals deficit to 4-3. But Herget induced an game-ending double-play to hold on for his third save.
The Naturals return home to begin a eight-game homestand over a nine-day period, starting with a four-game series against the Arkansas Travelers (Seattle Mariners). Northwest Arkansas has not announced a starting pitcher after previously scheduled starter, *Miguel Almonte *was recalled by Kansas City earlier in the day.
Join the Voice of the Naturals, *Benjamin Kelly*, with a 6:15 p.m. pregame show, leading up to the 6:35 p.m. first pitch on the flagship station of the Naturals, 92.1-FM, the Ticket.
