
Rioux joins coaching staff

ncton, NB â Moncton Wildcats' Director of Hockey Operations Alan Power has confirmed that Pierre Rioux has agreed to join the organization as Assistant Coach, effective immediately. Rioux joins the Wildcats' coaching staff after spending the last eighteen months as the Head Coach in the Quebec Semi-Pro League. Prior to that, he served as Assistant Coach for the Quebec Remparts organization, in the 2002 â 03 season.
"We are very pleased to announce the signing of Rioux to our organization", commented Power. "He has been a winner at every level of his hockey playing career and we look forward to him bringing his winning attitude to our team. He was known as a team player and we look for him to assist in preparing our players for the challenges ahead. "
Rioux began his hockey career with the Ste. Foy Gouvernors in the Midget AAA League, where they went on to win the Air Canada Cup. He then played three years in the QMJHL and won a World Junior Championship under Head Coach Dave King in 1982, before turning pro in a career that spanned nearly 17 years. Included in that stretch, was 1982-86 in the Calgary Flames organization, including a year with the Moncton Golden Flames (1984 â 86). Among his Head Coaches at this time were Pierre Page, Terry Crisp and Bob Johnston. He won the Spengler Cup in 1986 under George Kingston. He was born February 1st, 1962 and is fluent in French, English and German.
"I am very happy to join the Moncton organization", commented Rioux. "I am very pleased to have this opportunity, after being away from the league for nearly two years, to be back. I realize that this is an excellent team and organization that I am becoming a part of and I will put everything I have into the job."
Moncton continues their five game road trip, with games in Rimouski on Friday, Quebec on Saturday, Chicoutimi on Sunday and Baie Comeau on Tuesday. Moncton's next home game is on Friday, February 11th, when they will host Provincial rivals Acadie-Bathurst Titan in a 7 pm match-up.
