SAINT JOHN, NB â With the McDonald's Name-the-Team Contest only at the half-way mark, officials with the Saint John entry in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) have counted more than 3,000 ballots.
"We are overwhelmed with the level of interest and involvement in naming our new junior hockey club," said Bruno Del Bel, executive director.
As of yesterday (February 3), a total of 3,586 entries had been received at area McDonald's restaurants, mailed or faxed, or submitted online at www.nametheteam.com.
Winning prize in the contest includes two 2005-06 regular season tickets and two replica team jerseys. Weekly draws for a McDonald's "Year of Cheer" (a Big Mac Value Meal a month for a year) will be held at each participating McDonald's restaurant.
Deadline for contest submissions is February 18.
"Selecting the right team nickname is an important first step, to be followed by development of a logo and the choosing of the team colors for our jerseys," said Del Bel.
