WINSTON DROPS MIDDLE MATCH

Luis Basabe crushed his team-leading eighth homer this season, but the Dash fell 9-4 against Salem on Wednesday at BB&T Ballpark. The Red Sox jumped out an early 2-0 lead in the first against Jimmy Lambert, thanks to a Bobby Dalbec two-run blast to right-center. Winston-Salem cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first against Red Sox starter Jake Thompson via an RBI single from Blake Rutherford, who leads the Dash with 35 RBIs. However, Salem added two unearned runs in the second and four runs in the third to chase Lambert from the game. Basabe's shot to right-center make it a 8-2 contest, but the Red Sox ultimately snapped the Dash's five-game winning streak.

BIG BATS ARE BACK

Rutherford and Basabe have gotten back on track after a down month of May, which was preceded by an incredible start in April. So far this month, Rutherford is 7-for-18 with two doubles and three RBIs in five games played. The former first-round pick hit .338 in April and .237 in May. Meanwhile, Basabe, who earned White Sox co-MiLB Player of the Month honors, hit .313 in April and .226 in May.

SHOWING THE BULLPEN LOVE, TOO

Winston-Salem's bullpen has been stellar during the Dash's homestand so far, having allowed just two earned runs through 21.2 innings in the last five games. Here are the top three arms:

LHP Kyle Kubat: 2-0, 1.20 ERA, 13G, 29K, 3BB; lowest BB-IBB/9IP ratio in the CL

RHP Matt Foster: 2-1, 2.63 ERA, 17G, 33K, 6BB

RHP Zach Thompson: 1-1, 2.08 ERA, 18G, 32K; four straight scoreless appearances (9IP)

PLAYOFF PICTURE

The Dash are currently in first place, up a half-game on the Buies Creek Astros, who Winston-Salem is 5-5 against this year. The Dash last clinched a first-half championship in 2012, when the team went 44-25-1. Winston has made the playoffs four times in the Dash era (2009-present).

HOME-HEAVY END TO THE FIRST HALF

After a road-heavy schedule to start the season, which has seen the Dash play 32 of their first 54 games on the road, Winston-Salem closes out the first half with 13 of its final 16 games at BB&T Ballpark. The rest of the slate includes the team's current three-game set against Salem (6/5-6/7), a three-game series against Myrtle Beach (6/11-6/13) and a four-game set against Wilmington (6/14-6/17).

WELCOME BACK, RED SOX

The Salem Red Sox visit BB&T Ballpark for the second time this season, having split a four-game set against Winston-Salem at the downtown facility from April 19-22. The Dash traveled to Haley Toyota Field from May 7-9, winning all three games against Salem in that road set.

GOING WITH THE FLO

Left-hander Bernardo Flores takes the hill for Winston-Salem in Thursday's rubber match against the Red Sox. Flores, who is second in the Carolina League in innings pitched at 63.2 frames, has logged eight quality starts in his 10 outings this year. The southpaw is currently ninth in the circuit with a 2.69 ERA. Flores was drafted out of the University of Southern California in the seventh round by the White Sox in 2016. One of the key factors to Flores' success has been his control, as he has yielded just 13 walks so far this year. More information is available on page 3.

DASH DOTS

Following Thursday's action, the Dash travel to Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C., to take on the Carolina Mudcats in what will be the team's final road trip of the first half...While the Carolina League's Southern Division has three teams above .500, the Northern Division only has one ballclub with a .500 record in the Potomac Nationals...Alex Call has quietly put together a solid stretch after an 0-for-14 run from May 22-24...Call has recorded at least one hit in eight of his last 10 games, registering a .333 AVG (11-for-33) in that span.
