Warriors Drop Reno to Even the Season Series

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors (22-17) defeated the Reno Bighorns (13-26) 114-107 on Saturday night in front of a twenty-fifth consecutive sellout crowd at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

Scott Wood led the Warriors with 26 points and 5 rebounds, while Phil Pressey notched a double-double with 25 points and 13 assists to go with 5 rebounds. Damian Jones, on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, scored a season-high 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds off the bench.

The Bighorns were paced by Isaiah Cousins who led all scorers with 28 points. David Stockton contributed 24 points and 8 assists, while Kendall Marshall notched a double-double with 17 points and 10 assists.

The Warriors got off to a red-hot start, shooting 90% from the field to take a four-point edge by the first timeout in the opening frame. Santa Cruz would cap the frame with a 56% team shooting effort en route to outscoring the visitors 33-28 in the period. Scott Wood powered the offense, scoring 12 of his 26 points off 5-of-6 shooting from the field in the first.

The Warriors defense limited the Bighorns to a 28.6% team shooting effort in the second frame. A jump-shot from Damian Jones with 1:36 remaining in the half would boost the Warriors' lead to 17 points, their largest advantage of the night. Santa Cruz held a 63-50 lead heading into the break.

Reno outscored Santa Cruz 36-26 in the third frame behind a 61.5% team shooting effort. A 16-5 run in the final 4 minutes of the period tied the game for the first time since the opening quarter, though Reno would fall short of taking the lead from the Warriors and trail by 3 to enter the final frame.

The Bighorns would remain within striking distance of the Warriors, keeping their deficit within single-digits. A three-pointer from David Stockton at the 4:55 mark would pull the opponents within two points. Phil Pressey would score 8 of the Warriors' 11 ensuing points to finish the frame, securing the victory and evening the season series against Reno 2-2.
