Bighorns Split Series with Warriors After Rally Falls Short In

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. ---- The Reno Bighorns (13-26) fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors (22-17) 114-107 Saturday night at the Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Isaiah Cousins led the Bighorns with 28 points (12-17 FG), three rebounds and three steals while David Stockton tallied 24 points, five rebounds and eight assists. Kendall Marshall recorded his fifth double-double of the season notching 17 points, six rebounds and 10 assists.

Scott Wood paced the Warriors with 26 points and five rebounds while Phil Pressey logged a double-double with 25 points, five rebounds and 13 assists.

The Bighorns remained scoreless the first minute and 30 seconds of play until Kendall Marshall scored a triple to put the Bighorns on the board. The Warriors lead the Bighorns by six at the at 8:17 mark before Reno tied the game with just under five minutes to play in the frame. Five points from Cousins in less than 50 second helped the Bighorns to a three-point advantage before Santa Cruz retook control of the lead after a dunk from Damian Jones at the 2:46 mark. The Warriors entered the second quarter leading 33-28.

The teams kept the score close opening the second frame before the Warriors went on an 18-5 run to hold a 17 point advantage with 1:36 to play in the first half. The Warriors would hold the advantage over the Bighorns the remainder of the period holding an 11-point cushion at the half.

Santa Cruz kept the Bighorns at bay coming out of the break holding a double-digit lead at the mid-way point of the third frame. The Bighorns gained momentum going on a 17-3 run to knot the game up at 85 after a three from Stockton at the .46 mark. The Warriors held an 89-86 lead going into the final frame. Reno outscored the Warriors 36-26 on the third quarter.

The Bighorns remained within striking distance, cutting the deficit to two after a triple from Stockton at the 4:55 mark. The Warriors rallied to pull ahead to lead by as many as nine at the 3:36 mark. Despite Stockton scoring 18 of his 24 points in the second half, the Warriors would not relinquish the lead.

Reno will next travel to Los Angeles to face the D-Fenders on Friday, Mar. 10 at 7:30 PM
