Arkansas Travelers News Release
North Little Rock, AR-The Arkansas Travelers wrapped up a sweep of the Frisco Rough Riders with a 17-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Dickey-Stephens Park. A 13-run sixth inning turned the game into a laugher as the Travs built their lead to as many as 15 in the game.
The 13-run inning came against three Frisco relief pitchers, all of whom recorded one out. After a strikeout to open the inning, the next 11 batters all reached base on 10 hits and a walk. The order of the offensive outburst was as follows; Chuck Taylor single, Dario Pizzano single, Seth Mejias-Brean single, Kyle Waldrop single scoring two, Tyler Marlette double scoring one, Keury De La Cruz single scoring one, Marcus Littlewood single scoring one, Joey Wong walk, Nelson Ward single scoring one with another man scoring on an error, Taylor double scoring one, Pizzano double.
The flurry pushed the score to 13-2. After a groundout for the second out, Kyle Waldrop walked to reload the bases and forced Frisco's third pitcher of the inning into the game. Tyler Marlette would provide the capper to the inning with a grand slam into the right field corner. The final totals for the inning were 13 runs on 11 hits, two walks and two errors although all the runs ended up being earned.
Aside from the massive inning, Arkansas still had a solid day offensively scoring in the second third and fourth innings. Joey Wong delivered a two out RBI hit in the second. Chuck Taylor homered in the third and later Kyle Waldrop hit an RBI single to put the Travs in front. In the fourth, it was another two out RBI hit, this time from Seth Mejias-Brean.
Dylan Unsworth provided a quality start on the hill as he worked six innings, allowing just a pair of runs in the second. For the game he surrended six hits and a walk while striking out six. He improved to 3-4 with the victory. Frisco starter Collin Wiles lasted just four innings but took the loss falling to 4-2.
The Travs will have Memorial Day off before starting a three game series in Midland against the RockHounds on Tuesday night. Right-hander Tyler Herb (2-2, 4.13) gets the call for Arkansas while Midland has yet to announce their starter. First pitch is at 6:30 and the game will be broadcast on the Sports Animal 920, the First Pitch App, TuneIn radio and milb.tv.
