Bristol State Liners News Release
The Bristol Pirates dropped their fourth straight game on Sunday evening, as they fell 11-5 to the Greeneville Reds at Pioneer Park.
Christian Navarro entered the game as a defensive substitute in the first inning for Conner Uselton, and went on to lead the team on offense with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, with a double, a stolen base and a run scored. Sherten Apostel finished 0-for-3 with a walk and scored the first run of the night for Bristol by stealing home in the second inning.
Francisco Mepris and Jonah Davis each finished with one hit on the night -- both of which were triples. It was the first time two Bristol players tripled in a game since August 22, 2017 when Ben Bengston and Melvin Jimenez both hit their first triples of the season against the then-Greeneville Astros at Pioneer Park.
Vince Deyzel earned his first loss of the season, allowing two runs on one hit and two walks over one inning of work. Colin Selby allowed five runs on six hits over four innings in his fourth start of the season, and accounted for the Pirates' only strikeout in the loss. It was the fewest strikeouts in a game by the Bristol pitching staff this season, and it was the fourth game this season with fewer than five strikeouts.
The Pirates (11-14) return to Greeneville for the last time this season on Monday at 7 p.m. Steven Jennings will get the start against the Reds, coming off his first career win where he struck out a career- high nine batters. After the conclusion of this three-game series, the Pirates will have Tuesday off before returning home for their series opener against the Burlington Royals on Wednesday night at 7. Wednesday's game will be Wonderful Wednesday at Boyce Cox Field, with fans receiving $1 off one admission by bringing two canned or boxed food items that will be donated to local area charities.
