San Antonio Rampage News Release
ROSEMONT, Illinois - (October 21, 2008) - The San Antonio Rampage gave up a pair of shorthanded goals as they fell 3-1 to the defending Calder Cup Champion Chicago Wolves at the Allstate Arena on Tuesday night.
The Wolves potted the only goal of the first period as rookie forward Spencer Machacek scored on a rebound at 7:52. Rampage goalie Al Montoya kept it at a one goal deficit as he made a terrific save robbing wide open forward Junior Lessard on the doorstep late in the frame.
In the second Montoya made another huge save as he sprawled to turn aside Wolves forward Joey Crabb on a breakaway eight minutes into the period. Both teams had chances, but neither scored as San Antonio was 0-3 while Chicago went 0-4 on the man advantage in the middle frame.
The Wolves extended their lead in the third period as Crabb and Montoya raced for a loose puck in the Rampage end. Montoya was unable to bat it away and Crabb grabbed it and fired it into the empty net at 31 seconds for a shorthanded goal and a 2-0 lead. The Wolves struck again shorthanded at 10:11 as Jordan Lavalle stripped the puck at the Rampage blue line and then streaked in to score with a wrister to make it 3-0.
San Antonio completed the scoring as forward Greg Classen scored his second of the season by wristing home a power play tally at 14:08. With the goal the Rampage have now scored on the power play in four straight games. FINAL SCORE Chicago 3, San Antonio 1.
Montoya allowed three goals on 38 shots in 58:56 and fell to 0-3-0. Wolves' goalie Ondrej Pavelec stopped 32 of 33 shots in 60 minutes and got the win to improve to 3-2-0. The Rampage went 1-8 on the power play, while Chicago was 0-10.
San Antonio suffered their third straight loss and fell to 1-4-0-0, while Chicago won their third straight and improved to 3-1-1-0.
