Pair of Osprey Earn Honors Monday

MISSOULA, MONT - After a stellar week in Orem for the Missoula Osprey, Alek Thomas has been named to the MLB Pipeline Team of the Week and Zack Shannon garnered Pioneer League Player of the Week honors.

Thomas slashed .467/.600/1.000 during the four game series in Orem while scoring 10 runs, the most in Minor League Baseball for the entire week. He also swatted his first two professional home runs and drove in four.

On the season, Thomas owns a .421 batting average with seven RBIs and 16 runs scored in nine games. The 18-year-old has compiled 25 total bases and drawn five walks.

Shannon blasted his way to Pioneer League Player of the Week honors after driving in 10 runs in four games on the road in Orem. The first year pro posted a .438/.474/.813 slash line while finishing the series 7-16. His best game of the series came on August 11 when he tied the league lead in home runs with his ninth of the season and drove in five runs.

The 22-year-old has boosted his average to .347 in 42 games along with a team-high 41 RBIs. Shannon has 15 doubles, the most on the team. Shannon is the second player to earn Pioneer League honors this season as Marcos Tineo was named Pitcher of the Week in July.

The O's continue their 2018 season and a quest for a playoff berth.
