MISSOULA, MONT. - The Missoula Osprey (12-21) dropped a season-high fifth straight game on Friday night, this time suffering a 12-3 setback to the Ogden Raptors (16-17) from Ogren Park Allegiance Field. With the win, Ogden is now 5-0 against Missoula this year.
The game got off to an odd start, as Ogden was called for batting out of order by Missoula manager Joe Mather after what looked like an RBI-single from Brock Carpenter. When all was reconciled, the run was taken off the board and it was discovered that four different Raptor players hit out of order in the top of the first.
While the first run was wiped off the board, Ogden managed to tack on 12 more over the course of the victory, scoring once in the second, twice in the fourth and fifth, three more in the sixth, and the final four in the seventh. Errol Robinson finished the game with two doubles as part of a 3-for-3 night with three runs scored, while Luis Paz contributed a three-RBI triple and narrowly missed an inside-the-park grand slam after punching the ball past Billy Endris with the bags loaded in the sixth.
Gersel Pitre and Jordan Paroubeck both homered in the victory for Ogden, with Paroubeck launching a two-run shot in the fifth before Pitre contributed a two-run blast of his own to highlight the four-run seventh.
Missoula, trailing 8-0 at this point, broke through with its first two runs of the game in the sixth inning when Tanner Hill punched a two-RBI double into right centerfield to bring home Jose Herrera and Jasrado Chisholm. Another RBI-double, this one from Billy Endris, pushed the third Osprey run across in the seventh, as he drove in Mike Branigan who had reached with his first hit as an Osprey.
Jhoan Duran was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over 4.0 innings, as he dropped to 0-1 on the year. Rob McDonnell was credited with the victory after tossing 2.0 scoreless innings of relief as the first out of the bullpen. The left-hander struck out four over his time on the mound, improving to 2-0 with the win.
Missoula, which has now dropped 12 of the last 16, will attempt to get back into the win column on Saturday night when it plays game three of the four-game series against Ogden at 7:05 p.m.
