Moose fall to Americans, 4-1

Manitoba Moose News Release

Even though the Moose scored the first goal of the night, the visiting Americans notched four in a row to record a 4-1 victory over Manitoba in front of 6,343 fans at MTS Centre on Tuesday night. Mike Keane scored Manitoba's lone goal while Cory Schneider stopped 28 of 32 shots. The two clubs meet again tomorrow night to close-out the series.

Rochester's starting goaltender Alexander Salak didn't see much action in the opening minutes - not facing his first shot until the six-minute mark of the frame. Manitoba's offence picked up after their late start, however, and fired three consecutive shots on the net minder.

Manitoba's penalty kill unit made their debut at 10:42 when Evan Oberg was penalized for tripping. The quartet of Moose players stifled all the Amerks scoring chances and the home team left the disadvantage unscathed.

Jamie Johnson returned the favor at 12:35 when he was forced to serve an interference minor. Despite firing two shots on the powerplay, the Moose failed to capitalize on their opening man-advantage.

Five-on-five hockey paid off for the Moose at 16:16. Mike Keane's wrist shot from inside the red circle flew between Salak's five-hole to open the scoring. However, the antler crew would only enjoy their lead for 21 seconds as the Amerks answered right back. With an initial save by Cory Schneider on Jeff Taffe's shot, Michal Repik slapped the rebound into the open back door to get back on even ground.

By the midway point of the game the Americans were leading 22-12 in the shot department.

With three minutes left in the second stanza, Guillaume Desbiens and Jimmy Bonneau squared off to the left of Palak's net. After both players fell to the ice they were each handed a five-minute fighting major and Desbiens was dealt an additional two-minutes for holding. Moments later Travis Ramsey was penalized for tripping putting the Amerks on a five-on-three advantage. Situated in the Moose zone, Rochester's textbook tic-tac-toe play ended with the puck flying over Schneider's right goal pad, directed by Graham Mink, for a 2-1 tally.

With 11 seconds left on the penalty kill, the Moose sacrificed another goal. Jason Garrison fired the puck through the traffic and over a blinded Schneider to carry a 3-1 lead into the third period.

The Moose benefited from a four-minute powerplay in the opening half of the final frame after Brady Calla was put away for a high-stick on Schneider. The visitors killed-off the four-minute powerplay and play resumed to even-strength.

With 5:07 left in the game, Evgeny Dadonov danced his way around Manitoba's pair of defenders and slapped the puck into the net to confirm the game, 4-1.
