Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Sioux City, IA-The Sioux Falls Stampede were once again close, but couldn't get the victory as a late Sioux City goal handed the Stampede a 5-4 loss Friday night at the Tyson Events Center. Jack Doremus scored twice while Mikhali Berdin made 41 saves for the Stampede who dropped to 4-7-1 on the season. Sioux Falls led midway through the third period, but couldn't hold off the Musketeers who scored twice in the final eight minutes of the game to earn the win.

The Stampede came out flying in the first and it paid off, scoring 7:55 in when Jack Doremus tallied his fourth of the season. Josh Passolt took the puck behind the Musketeers net and wrapped the puck around onto the net which was stopped by Matiss Kivlenieks, but the rebound bounced to the left of the goal and Doremus pounced on the puck and put it into the back of the net to give Sioux Falls a 1-0 lead. The celebration was short lived however, as three minutes later Eeli Tolvanen showed why he is one of the best in the league as he one-timed a pass past Stampede goaltender Mikhali Berdin. Less than three minutes later the Musketeers struck again, this time Connor Ford's wrist shot found the twine to make it a 2-1 score. It stayed that way until late in the period when the Herd tied the game on a goal from Jason O'Neill. Eric MacAdams broke down the left wing boards into the offensive zone and sent a pass into the slot for O'Neill who drove to the net and wristed a shot past Kivlenieks to make it 2-2. Sioux City outshot the Herd 12-10 in the period. The Musketeers wasted little time getting things going in the second, scoring one minute into the period when Tolvanen notched his second of the game on a slap shot from the left circle. Sioux Falls would respond at 8:31 when Doremus took a pass in slot and backhand a shot through traffic and past the stick of Kivlenieks for his second of the night and to tie the game once again at 3-3. The rest of the period belonged to Sioux City who outshot the Herd 21-4, but Berdin was solid between the pipes to keep the game tied. Sioux Falls was awarded a five minute power play with just under four minutes left in the period when Kristian Pospisill was given a five minute major and game misconduct for a check from behind on the Stampede's Paul DeNaples.

The power play carried over into the third period, but the Herd were unable to convert. It remained tied until the midway point of the period when the Stampede grabbed the lead for the first time since early in the game. Jack Doremus wristed a shot from the left circle that went off the glove of Kivlenieks and bounced behind him and near the goal line before Matthew Quercia tipped it in to give the Herd the 4-3 edge. Once again though the Herd's lead wouldn't last as the Musketeers responded less than two minutes later when JC McLean fired one past Berdin to tie the game 4-4. It appeared the game would be headed to overtime, but the Musketeers had other plans. The Musketeers beat out an icing call to keep the puck in the offensive zone and Tolvanen blasted a shot that went off the mask of Berdin and bounced in front of the net where Aapeli Rasanen reached around a Stampede defender and slipped the puck under Berdin's pads to give the Musketeers at 5-4 edge. Sioux Falls pulled their goaltender late to try and tie the game, but couldn't get that lucky bounce they needed and came up just short.

Sioux City outshot the Herd 13-10 in the period and 46-24 on the night while going 1-for-4 on the power play while the Herd were 0-for-3.

The Stampede look to get back on track Saturday night when they host the Lincoln Stars at 7:05 PM for Pink in the Rink night, presented by Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital. The rink will be pink and the players will be wearing special pink jerseys that will be raffled off throughout the game to benefit the American Cancer Society. Tickets are available through the PREMIER Center or any Ticketmaster outlet.
