Knicks Rally for Comeback Win Over Bayhawks

MISSISSAUGA, ON - After trailing for the overwhelming majority of the game, the Westchester Knicks (12-12), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, powered past the Erie BayHawks (7-18), the Orlando Magic's affiliate, to a 118-114 victory in its first 2017 NBA D-League Showcase appearance.

The shots were falling for Westchester as they shot 57% from the field and converted on 50% of their shots form beyond the arc. Von Wafer led all Knicks with 23 points to go along with five assists and five rebounds. Courtney Fells wasn't far behind as he added in 22 points and dished out five assists.

Erie's Gabe York led his team with 32 points and eight assists. He was aided by his teammate, Anthony Brown who contributed 19 points and knocked down three of his six shots from the three-point line. Despite their best efforts, it wasn't enough to stop Westchester's late rally to win the game.

The opening minutes of the first quarter revealed that this was going to be a hard fought game for the Westchester Knicks. Courtney Fells owned the first basket of the game after nailing a shot from beyond the arc. As the opening quarter came to a close, Westchester trailed Erie 23-21. The Knicks' relentless pursuit of the lead carried into the second quarter.

Erie never surrendered their lead, but in the closing seconds of the quarter, Von Wafer hit a huge three-point shot, giving Westchester some momentum at the half.

Westchester's path to a victory started in the game's third quarter. Von Wafer had his best quarter of the game, scoring 17 points. Courtney Fells was right by his side as he managed an impressive 16 points and five assists. After a late push, the Knicks were only down by one heading into the game's final quarter.

Von Wafer did what he does best and led the late rally which pushed Westchester over the edge against Erie. Wafer scored 13 points in the game's final quarter. Jordon Crawford was able to put the team in the right positon down the stretch as he managed to put 11 points on the scoreboard. Westchester earned every bucket behind a total team effort as they walked away winners. At the end of the buzzer, the Knicks had won 118-114.

Westchester will play its second Showcase game on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. against the Canton Charge. The game will be broadcast live on NBA TV.
