Energy Surges Late to Put out Stars

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario- The Iowa Energy (4-20) won its second-straight game by beating the Salt Lake City Stars (7-18), 108-94, on Day Three of the 2017 NBA Development League Showcase.

Jakarr Sampson led Iowa with 23 points, six rebounds and three blocks in 25 minutes. Wade Baldwin came off the bench to post a double-double of 18 points and 12 assists to go with six rebounds and a game-high plus-22 differential.

The first three quarters of the game saw both teams fighting for the advantage via 16 lead changes and six ties. Trailing 74-72 to begin the fourth, the Stars scored seven straight points for their largest lead of the game at 79-74. Iowa immediately responded with a 13-1 run that would put it ahead for good. The Energy outscored the Stars 34-22 in the fourth thanks to hitting 11-of-19 shots as a team (58 percent).

Iowa's Wayne Selden added 18 points and seven rebounds in 30 minutes and Cartier Martin scored 14 points with six boards in 30 minutes. As a team, the Energy dished out 25 assists on 40 field goals. Ten of 11 Iowa players in uniform got in the scoring column, including seven different players in the fourth quarter.

Salt Lake City was led by Diamond Stone's game-high 27 points with 14 rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench. Jermaine Taylor scored 15 points in 23 minutes of relief. The Stars bench scored 64 of the team's 94 points while the Energy reserves accounted for 47 of their 108 points.

Iowa will next take on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. ET. Salt Lake City will face Reno in the penultimate game of the Showcase on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 12:30 p.m. ET. NBA TV will televise each game.
