Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Bierfeldt, Hernandez Blast IronBirds to Extra Inning Win

Conor Bierfeldt and Manny Hernandez each had home runs in the 11th inning last night, helping the IronBirds to an 8-3 win over the Lowell Spinners. Bierfeldt led off the inning with a solo shot over the left field scoreboard at LeLacheur Park. Hernandez then followed up with a three run shot to left center. Tanner Rust also had an RBI Double in the 11th, scoring Byron Capellan, before Hernandez cleared the bases. Augey Bill, the Orioles 39th round draft pick this year, earned his second win after stranding the winning run at third base with one out in the ninth. Bill rung up back to back strike outs to send the game to extra innings.

Monday Night Road Games Are Meant For Extra Innings

The IronBirds had six regularly scheduled Monday night road games this season. One was rained out (at Jamestown) and one was a doubleheader (July 29th at Staten Island). Every other game went to extra innings. June 24th at Staten Island went 13 (L, 3-2), July 1st at Hudson Valley went 13 (W, 1-0), July 8th at Tri-City went 12 (L, 2-1), and last night went 11 innings before the IronBirds won 8-3. Aberdeen already set a new franchise record for extra inning wins in a single season back on August 6th at Auburn. They increased the mark to eight with the win last night. The IronBirds are one game shy of tying the mark for most extra inning games in a season (11), a mark set back in 2009 when Aberdeen went 4-7 in those 11 games. Aberdeen has now outscored their opponents 22-5 in extra innings this season.

Brooklyn Won, Hudson Valley Lost

With just nine games to go in the New York-Penn League Regular Season, the IronBirds maintained their half game lead over the Brooklyn Cyclones, as the Cyclones clobbered the Tri-City ValleyCats 8-1 at MCU Park. The Hudson Valley Renegades lost last night to the Connecticut Tigers, meaning the IronBirds now lead the Renegades by 3.5 games entering the home stretch. Hudson Valley visits Ripken Stadium Thursday and Friday, the final two times the teams will meet this season.

On the mound tonight...

LHP Steve Brault will get the start for the IronBirds. In his last outing, at Hudson Valley, Brault went three innings, allowing four hits, two runs (both earned), and two walks. He also struck out three. He is 1-1 on the season and has a 2.34 ERA. He will be opposed by RHP Jamie Callahan. He is 5-1 on the season with a 3.53 ERA.
